Raúl Juliá: The World’s a Stage

PBS New Mexico collaborates with the ISC on a preview screening and discussion of a brand new documentary, Raúl Juliá: The World’s a Stage. The program will be broadcast on PBS as part of American Masters.
The film will be screened at The Swan Theater, followed by a panel discussion and dessert reception.
This film examines the life and career of the inspiring, renowned actor, Raúl Juliá (1940–1994, born in Puerto Rico). Told in his own voice through archival interviews and intimate home videos, along with the words of those who knew him best, the film traces his personal and professional journey while showcasing rarely seen clips of his theater performances and scenes from his cinematic career. Ever-present as a backdrop throughout Raúl’s story is the cultural landscape of the entertainment world and the boundaries he broke. Raúl, with his big personality and distinctive accent, amassed a varied body of work that stands the test of time and helped pave the way for Latino actors today.
Themes for discussion will be: Civil rights, breaking barriers, perseverance, artistic craft, giving back, mentorship, literacy with focus on the works of William Shakespeare.
